Dirk the Diver is an interactive festival stick. A festival stick is very useful to find your friends at a festival. Or rather, for your friends to find you. Your stick sticks out from the crowd. Plus it’s a nice addition to the festival decorations.

I decided on making a deep sea diver. Naturally my festival stick was going to have LEDs, but I wanted more. I wanted the stick to be interactive. I added a sound sensor to create interaction with the immediate evironment. The LEDs respond to the sounds. I also wanted people to be able to interact with the diver. So I added a button which triggers a flow of bubbly bubbles.

Dirk has been to a number of festivals and places already. We went to Down the Rabbit Hole and The Monastery Festival. Dirk was also on display as part of the Art installations at Decompression (the Dutch Burning Man reunion party). Good times.
